Test and Tag Regulations: SA

Test and Tag Regulations historically used to be different across all states of Australia. In order to test and tag in South Australia specifically, you don't need to be an electrician or have an electrical background. In short, you need to be considered a 'Competent Person' which is something you can acquire by completing a test and tag course.

AS/NZS 3760 & 3012 Standards

The AS/NZS 3760 and 3012 Standards are the two main standards that you must work in accordance with to test and tag in South Australia.

The 3760 standard encompasses the overarching regulations for test and tag, whereas the 3012 standard refers specifically to testing and tagging construction, demolition, mining or marine sites.

Recently the Test and Tag Standard in Australia was updated in 2022 and now includes a host of changes since the previous version set in 2010. It's also now referred to as AS/NZS 3760:2022.

Test and Tag Colours SA

If you are working in the Construction or Demolition industry you will need to adhere to the AS/NZS 3012 Standard, and that basically means you will be required to use certain Test Tag Colours. Every three months these colours change which signifies a different period of the year.

Test and Tag Frequencies SA

Testing Intervals are also another standard requirement that needs to be understood. Interval lengths are mostly dependant on the type of environment an electrical appliance resides in. We generally recommend the following frequencies:

• Building, Construction and Demolition: 3 months
• Factories, Warehouses and Production: 6 months
• An environment where the equipment/supply cord is prone to flexing or open to abuse: 12 months
• An environment where the equipment/supply cord is not prone to flexing or open to abuse: 5 years

It is important to make sure you work with the relevant standards and adhere to any individual company OHS or risk management policies, as they may require different testing frequencies.
