National Safe Work Month: Time to Put Safety Back on the Agenda

October is National Safe Work Month - a nationwide initiative that helps create a chance for every workplace to step back and ask the question: are we doing enough to keep our people safe?

Each year, Safe Work Australia sets a theme to focus the conversation - this year it’s all about reminding people that safety works best when it’s part of every job, every day.

It’s not just about ticking boxes. It’s about making sure the systems, habits, and gear you rely on are actually keeping people safe.

Why it matters for Testing & Tagging

Electrical gear is one of the biggest hidden risks in any workplace - and Safe Work Month is the perfect time to check how well you’re managing it. If your tools and appliances aren’t tested and tagged regularly, you can’t be sure they’re safe to use.

Here's a quick checklist of things you can check right away:

  • Are there any portable appliances overdue for a test?
  • Are all the test tags current and records up-to-date?
  • Do staff know what to look for before using equipment?
  • Are all staff up-to-date with there test and tag knowledge and skills?

These small steps are realistic, easy to act on, and they go a long way in keeping your workplace safe and compliant.

A Timely Reminder

Safe Work Month officially runs through October, but the conversations can start now. Even a quick toolbox talk, a walk-through of your equipment, or a reminder about testing and tagging can help keep safety front of mind.

At Test & Tag Training, we see every day how much difference proactive electrical safety makes. Building testing and tagging into your routine isn’t just about ticking a compliance box - it’s about preventing accidents and keeping your crew safe. That’s why we put so much focus on practical, hands-on training: so the people doing the testing know exactly what’s required, and workplaces can be confident they’re covered.
