Online Test & Tag Course

By successfully completing this nationally recognised course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for UEESS00174 - Electrical Safety Testing of Electrical Cord Connected Equipment and Cord Assemblies Skill Set.

This Skill Set comprises two Units of Competency:

• UEECD0007 – Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
• UEERL0003 – Conduct in-service safety testing of electrical cord connected equipment and cord assemblies
• Course fee: $499 (GST exempt)
• Course duration: Three-hour practical session plus approximately three to four hours of self-paced WHS preparation
• Certification issued: Statement of Attainment and digital ID card with your certificate number
• Electrical knowledge: No previous electrical knowledge or experience is required

The course combines essential theory with extensive hands-on practice. You will learn how to:

• Apply relevant workplace health and safety requirements
• Visually inspect electrical equipment and cord assemblies
• Prepare and correctly use a portable appliance tester (PAT)
• Perform the required electrical safety tests
• Interpret test results and identify unsafe equipment
• Apply the correct test tags
• Record results and maintain testing documentation
• Identify when equipment requires repair or attention

To complete the Online Test & Tag Course, you'll need:

• A portable appliance tester capable of performing Class I, Class II and leakage tests
• Electrical test tags for the practical assessment
• A PC or tablet with a reliable internet connection - mobile phones cannot be used to run the session
• A working camera and microphone
• Insulation cloak material or aluminium foil
• RCD protection at your switchboard, or access to a portable RCD
• A safe, well-lit area for the practical training and assessment

Don't have a suitable PAT or test tags yet? You can still enrol. Our team can help you select the equipment you'll need before your practical training and assessment.

For the practical component of your online test and tag course, you'll need at least 10 suitable test items, including at least two or three items from each of these groups:

• Lead-class items: Extension leads, IEC leads, power boards, surge-protected power boards or RCD power boards
• Class I appliances: Kettles, irons, printers, pedestal fans, column heaters, desktop computers or clean toasters
• Class II appliances: Power tools, vacuum cleaners, laptop chargers, hair dryers, phone chargers, radios or suitable kitchen appliances

Remove all blades, discs and bits from power tools before the practical session.Items that may fail inspection or testing can still be useful training examples, but do not use anything unsafe to handle.
